AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 He said, "Indeed, you are people unknown." 62 "We have come to you with news," they said, "of what your people doubt; 63 We have come to you for a genuine purpose and We are true in what we say. 64 "Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered." 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the city came [unto Lot,] rejoicing at the glad tiding. 67 Lut said: "These are my guests: disgrace me not: 68 And fear Allah and do not disgrace me." 69 They said: Have we not forbidden you from (other) people? 70 He said: these are my daughters, if act ye must. 71 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. 72 And thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at the time of sunrise, 73 And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 The place (where this occurred) lies along a known route. 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers; 78 So We took vengeance on them. Both are still there on the highway, plain for all to see. 79
