And whatsoever of affliction befalleth you is owing to that which your hands have earned; and He pardoneth much. 30 And ye cannot frustrate His punishment in the earth; and there is for you beside Allah neither protector nor helper. 31 And among His Signs are the ships, smooth-running through the ocean, (tall) as mountains. 32 If He pleases, He causes the wind to become still so that they lie motionless on its back; most surely there are signs in this for every patient, grateful one, 33 Or He causeth them to perish on account of that which they have earned - And He forgiveth much - 34 And let them know, those who call Our messages in question, that for them there is no escape. 35 So whatever thing you are given, that is only a provision of this world's life, and what is with Allah is better and more lasting for those who believe and rely on their Lord. 36 And those who shun the great sins and indecencies, and whenever they are angry they forgive. 37 And those who obeyed the command of their Lord and kept the prayer established; and whose affairs are with mutual consultation; and who spend in Our cause from what We have bestowed upon them. 38 And those who defend themselves when they are wronged. 39 The retribution of a harmful deed is the harm equal to it; so whoever forgives and makes amends, so his reward is upon Allah; indeed He does not befriend the unjust. 40 If one avenges himself after he has been wronged, there is no way of blaming him. 41 The blame is only against those who oppress men and wrong-doing and insolently transgress beyond bounds through the land, defying right and justice: for such there will be a penalty grievous. 42 But withal, if one is patient in adversity and forgives - this, behold, is indeed something to set one's heart upon! 43
