The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 On an open record. 3 by the much-visited House, 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 and no one will be able to prevent it. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is this magic or do you not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
