The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
