He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And hath fear, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 fruits, and grass. 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
