Indeed this is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe; 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 into your heart, so that you may be a warner, 194 in the clear Arabic tongue. 195 And most surely the same is in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a sign to them that the learned men of the Israelites know it? 197 And if we had revealed it to any of the foreigners 198 And he had read it unto them, even then they would not have been believers therein. 199 Thus it passes through the hearts of the criminals. 200 they will not believe in it till they behold the grievous suffering 201 And it will come to them suddenly while they perceive [it] not. 202 Then they will say: "Can we be respited?" 203 Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on? 204 What thinkest thou? If We give them enjoyment of days for many years, 205 and then the promised punishment fell upon them, 206 That which they were made to enjoy shall not avail them? 207 And We did not destroy any town but it had (its) warners, 208 To advise; and We never oppress. 209 The satans have not revealed the Quran; 210 They are unworthy of it, nor can they do it. 211 Most surely they are far removed from the hearing of it. 212 Therefore do not worship another deity along with Allah, for you will be punished. 213 and warn your nearest kinsmen; 214 and extend kindness and affection to those of the believers who follow you. 215 but if they disobey thee, say: "I am free of responsibility for aught that you may do!" 216 And rely thou upon the Mighty, the Merciful. 217 who sees you when you stand up [for prayer], 218 And (seeth) thine abasement among those who fall prostrate (in worship). 219 Surely, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 220 [And] shall I tell you upon whom it is that those evil spirits descend? 221 They descend on every great accuser, extreme sinner. (The magicians) 222 They incline their ears, and most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets - it is the seduced who follow them. 224 Have you not seen that they wander distract in every valley, 225 and preaching what they themselves never practice. 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
