The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Burning the skins! 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
