The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Burning the skins! 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
