The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On lined couches, 15 facing one another. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and banana trees, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 and raised couches 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
