The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
