He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
