A company of the former peoples 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
