Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The Inevitable Calamity! 1 What is the Inevitable Calamity? 2 What do you comprehend by the concrete reality? 3 Thamud and 'Ad people denied the Qari'ah [the striking Hour (of Judgement)]! 4 Thamood, they were destroyed by the violent shout (of Gabriel), 5 and as for the 'Ad - they were destroyed by a storm wind furiously raging, 6 that He subjected upon them for seven nights and eight days consecutively and you might have seen them struck down as if they were the stumps of palm trees that had fallen down. 7 Beholdest thou any of them remaining? 8 Pharoah and those before him and the inhabitants of the overthrown cities persistently committed grave sins. 9 They disobeyed the Messenger of their Lord and He seized them with torment which increased with time. 10 Verily We! when the water rose, We bare you upon the traversing ark. 11 as a lesson for you, but only attentive ears will retain it. 12 When a single blow is blown on the Horn, 13 And the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke,- 14 Then, on that day will the Event befall. 15 And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm. 16 and the angels [will appear] at its ends, and above them, eight will bear aloft on that Day the throne of thy Sustainer's almightiness… 17 On that day ye will be exposed; not a secret of you will be hidden. 18 Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record! 19 Surely, I knew that I should meet my reckoning," 20 So he shall be in a life of pleasure, 21 in a lofty garden, 22 with its fruits within easy reach. 23 [And all who are thus blest will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer in return for all [the good deeds] that you have sent ahead in days gone by!" 24 Then as to him who shall be vouchsafed his book in his left hand, he shall say: Oh! would that I had not been vouchsafed my book. 25 And not known my account! 26 Oh, would that it had been death! 27 My wealth has been of no use to me. 28 my authority is gone from me.' 29 (It will be said): "Seize him and fetter him, 30 Then cast him into the burning fire, 31 "Further, make him march in a chain, whereof the length is seventy cubits! 32 for, behold, he did not believe in God, the Tremendous, 33 nor would he urge the feeding of the poor. 34 Therefor hath he no lover here this day, 35 Nor food other than suppuration (filth) 36 None shall eat it but the sinners. 37
