He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
