He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
