He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attended to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
