He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
Almighty God's Truth.
