The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sunlight is rolled up. 1 And when the stars darken, 2 The mountains made to move, 3 when the pregnant camels shall be neglected, 4 When the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations); 5 And when the seas shall be filled, 6 when the souls are coupled (to their body), 7 And when the girl buried alive shall be asked: 8 for what offence was she killed? 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 And when the sky is torn away, 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 And when Paradise shall be brought near, 13 then shall a soul know what it has produced. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 The planets withdrawing into themselves, 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 Obeyed one; then trustworthy. 21 Your companion is not mad. 22 he truly beheld [the angel - beheld] him on the clear horizon; 23 And he is not avid of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds: 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 And you do not please except that Allah please, the Lord of the worlds. 29
