Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
