Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
