The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
