The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
