The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
