Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 and the day in splendour 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 He verily will be content. 21
