The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
