Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
