Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 Within gardens and springs 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
