The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
