He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
