He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
