The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning. 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 I swear by the glow of sunset, 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 (Muhammad), tell them that they will all suffer a painful torment 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
