Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
