Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
