The assembly of Pharaoh's nation said: 'This man is a wellversed sorcerer 109 who wants to drive you out of your land! " [Said Pharaoh:] "What, then, do you advise?" 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 Who will bring you every learned magician." 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired Moosa that, “Put forth your staff”; it immediately began swallowing up their fabrications. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 Thus they were overcome and made to look abject. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
