The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
