Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 therein uplifted couches 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And linen spread out. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
