The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 He would drive you forth from your land; so what is it that ye enjoin? 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said: O Musa! either thou cast down, or we shall be the ones to cast down. 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
