Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Join My servants. 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
