The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
