Hast thou received the story of the honoured guests of Abraham? 24 When they came to him, they said: "Peace." He answered: "Peace." They were a people he did not recognise. 25 So he turned to his household and brought a fattened calf. 26 and placed it before them, saying, "Will you not eat?" 27 He began to feel afraid. They said, "Do not be afraid," and then gave him the glad news of the birth of a knowledgeable son. 28 Then his wife came forward, making moan, and smote her face, and cried: A barren old woman! 29 "Such is the will of your Lord," they replied. "He is the Wise, the All Knowing." 30 ۞ Said [Abraham]: "And what [else] may you have in view, O you [heavenly] messengers?" 31 They said, 'We have been sent to a people of sinners, 32 "To bring on, on them, (a shower of) stones of clay (brimstone), 33 "Marked as from thy Lord for those who trespass beyond bounds." 34 So We removed the people who had faith, from that town. 35 We found in it only one household of true believers -- 36 And We have left there a sign (i.e. the place of the Dead Sea, well-known in Palestine) for those who fear the painful torment. 37 And in Moses (too, there is a portent) when We sent him unto Pharaoh with clear warrant, 38 In response, he turned away along with his army and said, “He is a magician or a madman.” 39 So We seized him and his armies, and threw them into the sea, for he was worthy of blame. 40 And in (the tribe of) A'ad (there is a portent) when we sent the fatal wind against them. 41 Which turned everything it touched to ashes. 42 And in [the story of the tribe of] Thamud, too, when they were told, "You shall enjoy your life for [but] a little while," 43 They transgressed against the command of their Lord. So a blast of sound struck them and they were unable to do anything but stare. 44 So they were not able to rise up, nor could they defend themselves- 45 And the people of Nuh before, surely they were a transgressing people. 46
