Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 and couches raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
