The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
