And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 when he said to his father and his people, 'What do you serve?' 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your forefathers! 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 "And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity." 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error." 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 "So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!" 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
