The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 by the much-visited House, 4 The roof raised high, 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 none can avert that. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
