The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 But We see it very near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
