In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Verily, We have sent to you (O men) a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) to be a witness over you, as We did send a Messenger [Musa (Moses)] to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
