The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 facing one another. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and continuous shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 and abundant fruits, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
