He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
