By the moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 a warning to humans, 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 In Gardens they will question 40 About the criminals, 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will say: we have not been of those who prayed. 43 we fed not the needy, 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 as if they were startled asses 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
