The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
